Driving Inclusivity by Celebrating “Uniquely Toyota, Uniquely You”
“Uniquely Toyota, Uniquely You” – the theme for the 2022 Diversity and Inclusion (D+I) Month – celebrated the unique qualities of each and every Toyota team member across North America.
Every year since 2019, Toyota dedicates August as a month to drive an ever-greater culture of inclusivity through team member activities, networking opportunities, speaker events, and trainings.
“D+I Month is a reminder that we invite our team members to bring their full selves to work every day. This is a place where diversity and a culture of inclusion are part of our DNA,” said Stephen Lewis, General Manager, Diversity and Inclusion, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA).
A few highlights from D+I Month 2022:
- Toyota team members from across North America shared their personal stories and commitment to inclusion in an inspiring video to kick off the month.
- Nearly 100 members of Toyota’s Business Partnering Groups (BPGs) submitted stories as testimony to the value of BPGs, allyship, and the celebration of coming together with our diverse backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and cultures.
- The D+I team invited all team members to join the D+I Month Speaker Series, welcoming journalist, speaker and writer Mariana Atencio to discuss how belonging drives resiliency. Emmy-winning actress Uzo Aduba joined for the second part of the series, to share about her passion in advocating for justice, the protection of women and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, moderated by Tellis Bethel, Group Vice President and Chief Social Innovation Officer, Toyota Motor North America.
- Approximately 500 team members took trainings on every day and unconscious bias to learn how to recognize and mitigate forms of bias, foster trust, and shape a sense of safety for everyone.
Although D+I Month is recognized just one month each year, Toyota is focused on unlocking the power of D+I all year long.
